The mystery bar was used for huge layouts at custom car shows to keep the cars from totally spinning out. They were flexible enough to let the car drift and slide. It had a tab attached to it that went below the track. I had one given to me at a car show in Indianapolis by Budd Anderson and Ak Miller who usually ran the huge layout. The car was a 1964 Galaxie Fastback promo body and was modified by AMT with the bar and also a gear drive in place of the drive belt. I no longer have it but do have a boxed layout and several pieces of NOS track I found in a hobby distributers moving sale. I hope this helps. Bill in Indianapolis
