Hello, The sets can be agravating sometimes. After all, they are 45 years old and all used sets. almost all sets out there are sold through ebay these days. I would think that most of the problems can be fixed but you want to get a good, complete basic set, meaning a car with a working motor (can be tested with a 12 volt DC power supply). The seller can hook up the transformer, controller, pickup shoe and car and test the motor and steering components. You want the track to be almost completely free of rust and make sure that you have the rail joiner clips (there are 10 for each piece of track) Go to our download page and get the manuals. They give you most of the basics. We will always help you with any nagging problems. If you are buying a set on ebay and paying top dollar for it, contact the seller and ask a lot of questions. Be comfortable that you are getting a complete set. Some sellers on ebay know T-pike stuff and others are just selling something they found in an attic. Do you have a specific set you are looking at? Use my e-mail contact on this page and Bill and I will try to help you, although neither of have sets to sell. Thanks, Leonard http://www.amtmodelturnpike.com/about_this_site.htm
