AMT Authentic Model Turnpike

This website is intended as a source of information sharing for enthusiasts of AMT Authentic Model Turnpike sets.  We welcome any questions, corrections, debates, information or comments.

This site is a hobby and I try to keep up with it on a daily basis.  If a page or article seems unfinished, please check in in a day or two.

If you want to see what is doing with AMT Model Turnpike on ebay here is a search link.

Here are a few video links of AMT Turnpike cars running:

Winter Is Approaching

and people are starting to think about their slot car sets again.  Being an indoor activity, racing seems to be more popular in the cold weather.  We have a new, up-and-running set from Ralph of NC who was good enough to send pictures (below). This is a nice sized layout.  We'll be updating the motor page soon and Bill has been working on a track modification to allow him to make 90 degree turns.

Wally sent us photos of his 65 Dodge Monaco which is quite neat, and another 60 Ford Wagon, just like Leonard's.  He also sent us a picture of another Mabuchi motor which may be useable for parts.  This has prompted us to add a "Motor" page to the sources page.

A Mystery (updated)?

Does anyone know the purpose of this bar?  It has been on a few cars sold on ebay lately and serves no apparent purpose as near as I can see.   Please leave a note on the discussion board if you know.

UPDATE!

Bill from Indianapolis posted a message giving us a clue as to what this bar was for.  Here is his message:

"The mystery bar was used for huge layouts at custom car shows to keep the cars from totally spinning out. They were flexible enough to let the car drift and slide. It had a tab attached to it that went below the track. I had one given to me at a car show in Indianapolis by Budd Anderson and Ak Miller who usually ran the huge layout. The car was a 1964 Galaxie Fastback promo body and was modified by AMT with the bar and also a gear drive in place of the drive belt. I no longer have it but do have a boxed layout and several pieces of NOS track I found in a hobby distributors moving sale. I hope this helps. "Bill in Indianapolis"

Thanks, Bill!  Does anyone have one of these bars and can send us better pictures and specs/measurements?
